Sketchbooks

I've always kept a sketchbook as a trusted companion.

And I try valiantly to fill them on a regular basis. During my design career, I discovered the greatest opportunity to accomplish this was when traveling by air for business or vacation. It gave me hours of uninterrupted time. I was quite happy to be drawing again—more like sketching, really—which just wasn’t as feasible while managing the day-to-day demands of a design office.

Many of them are done while in my seat on the plane as I quickly attempt to capture something within the cabin or out the window before the moment is lost. I added color later in my hotel room. They are filled with drawings, ephemera, notes, observations, ideas, and client concept sketches. They now serve as a resource for all the personal art projects I'm pursuing. Here are a few selected examples from them.
