Carlyle Steinke

Carlyle’s interest in tools and woodworking came naturally.

His family heritage included blacksmiths, furniture makers, carpenters, and plumbers. Many of his tools were his father’s or grandfather’s. In his career as a mechanical engineer, he continued that tradition. He was adept at drafting, carpentry, plumbing, tile, woodworking, and electrical projects. He used these diverse skills in the 1930s to construct and finish his family’s personal residence and later a small retirement home.

Carlyle was my father-in-law. Born in 1909, he passed away in 1998 before seeing any of this art. He took great pride in teaching his children and grandchildren to use tools properly.
